Purimspiel, a farcical debate
in honor of Purim to be held
7 p.m. March 7.
Professor Carl Cohen will
moderate the humorous
panel: Edith S. Gomberg, pro-
fessor of psychology, Univer-
sity of Michigan; Jeffrey S.
Lehman, professor of law, U-
M; Louis B. Nagel, associate
professor of music, U-M; and
Jonathan Rowe, local
attorney.

Applications for funding from
the Jewish Federation of
Washtenaw County are now
available for 1993-94 for Ann
Arbor area Jewish groups.
Applications are due into
the Federation office on April
20.
The Federation Allocations
Committee will review ap-
plications during the last
week of April and will invite
organizations to discuss their
applications at hearings to be
held May 3-4. The Federation
board of directors will vote on
the allocations at its June 17
meeting.

Holds Dinner
Yale Kamisar, Clarence Dar-
row Distinguished University
Professor at the University of
Michigan Law School, will
speak on "Active Euthanasia
Moves to Center Stage" at the
Jewish Federation of Washte-
naw County's Maimonides
Society dinner 6 p.m. March
28 at the Ann Arbor Hilton.
Drs. Paul Lichter and Alan
Sugar will report on their
visit to Israel on the UJA
Midwest Small Cities Mis-
sion, and Dr. Owen Z.
Perlman will talk about plans
for a UJA Medical Mission in
1994.
Dr. Amnon Rosenthal will
also speak on the purpose and
goals of the Maimonides
Society.

Federation of Washtenaw
County/United Jewish Ap-
peal, the Maimonides Society
is an organization of Jewish
physicians and dentists who
seek to strengthen the bonds
between themselves, the
Jewish community and Israel
through education and social
and philanthropic activities.
Maimonides Society mem-
bers contribute a minimum of
$1,000 to the Federation's an-
nual campaign. The dinner is
open to members and
non-members.
UJA Names
Appointments
Carol Shalita Smokier has
been elected chair of the
United Jewish Appeal Small
Cities Midwest Region. Dr.
Robert Hem is serving as the
local delegate to the Region
for the second year
Dr. Owen Z. Perlman has
been appoointed to the
Region Major Gifts
Committee.
Irving Smokier is continu-
ing on the Cash and Alloca-
tions Committee of the
Region and Pru Rosenthal
has been appointed to the
Missions Committee.
YAD Program
On The Holocaust
The Young Adult Division of
the Jewish Federation will
host a program examining
the link between the Holo-
caust and the rising current
of neo-Nazism 7:30 p.m.
March 9.
The gathering, which is
open to all young adults from
college-age to mid-30s, will be
held at the Jewish Commu-
nity Center's DeRoy Audi-
torium.
Dr. Kenneth Waltzer, of
Michigan State University's
James Madison College, and
Alex Ehrmann, a survivor,
will be featured at the pro-
gram. It will include tours of
the Holocaust Memorial
Center before and after the
speakers.
