Incredible Fun

Israel, with an emphasis on
camping and hiking. We visited
many exciting places including
naval bases, kibbutzim, the
Western Wall and Yad Vashem.
One of my favorite experiences
was floating in the Dead Sea.
Not only did I learn more about
Judaism in Israel, I've matured
and learned more about myself.
I wish all Jews had the opportu-
nity to visit Israel. It's really a
great place!

field, Masada

Many young adults spend their
summers at camp, working or
even taking summer classes, but
this summer I decided to do
something different. Ever since
I attended Hebrew school, I've
always wanted to travel to
Israel, and finally I had the
opportunity. I can't describe
what an incredible time I had
traveling through the Holy
Land and visiting sites I once
read about in Hebrew school. I
toured with Masada, which is a
non-profit group sponsored by
the Zionist Organization of
America. The tour consisted of
about 50 teen-agers, mostly
from New York, and lasted six
weeks. We traveled all through

Leadership Training

This summer I went on the
Young Judea Machon In Israel
trip to Israel. It was a six-week
leadership training program. It
was made up of kids in the
Haschachar-Young Judea from
across the country. We had ori-
entation for a week at the
national Young Judea camp in
Barryville, New York, and then
flew to Israel. Our home base
throughout our stay was the
Hadassah Youth Center on Mt.
Scopus in Jerusalem. Out of all
of the experiences I had this
summer the most memorable
was the weekend I got to spend

Lifetime Experience

One of the greatest summers of
my life was spent in Israel this
past year. I was able to do this
through a BBYO, four-week
summer program called ISI
(Israel Summer Institute). The
itinerary for this trip contained
activities that met everyone's
interest. For people who loved
sightseeing, we could be seen in
Israeli museums, praying on
Shabbat at the Western Wall,
walking around King David's
palace and even touring inside
the Dome of the Rock. For the
outdoor campers on our trip,
highlights included: hiking to
Masada, watching the sunrise,
beautiful walks throughout Ein
Gedi and digging with archaeolo-
gists in caves. My personal
favorites were the water activi-

ties. These included snorkeling,
parasailing, sailing around the
Red Sea and swimming under
waterfalls. One of the highlights
of the trip was being able to stay
on a moshav, where we picked
onions by morning and danced
and played basketball with
Israeli teens at night. ISI also
helped me develop friendships
with kids my age from all over
the U.S. and Canada. I have
never had so much fun, met so
many new friends or learned
more about my religion than this
summer in Israel made possible
through BBYO-ISI.

with an Israeli teen-ager and
his family. I got a chance to
experience what Israeli life is
really like away from all of the
tourism and a chance to see
what Israeli teen-agers think
about topics that are relevant to
both of us.
