4,000 Detroit-area women
during the annual Phonogift
on behalf of the 1993 Allied
Jewish Campaign. Calls will
be made 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Jan. 17;
and 3-9 p.m. Jan. 19 from the
Max M. Fisher Building of
the Jewish Federation of
Metropolitan Detroit.
Phonogift is the Federation
Women's Division major Cam-
paign phonathon. Volunteers
will address the needs of
fellow Jews in Detroit and
overseas. The Women's Divi-
sion is asking contributors to
consider a 15 percent increase
need for services.

Special Shabbat

The Sisterhood of Congrega-
tion B'nai Moshe will cele-
brate Women's League 75th
Anniversary Shabbat Jan. 23
during Shabbat services and
at a lunch and learn
following.
The speaker, Dr. Margaret
Eichner, will talk on "A Reac-
tion to the Findings in
Backlash" by Susan Faludi.
There is a charge for the
luncheon. There will be
babysitting available upon re-

Prejudice Is
Luncheon Topic

"School Ties: Prejudice in the
Classroom — Are Our
Children Part of the Problem
or Part of the Solution?" will
be the topic of the next Food
for Thought luncheon spon-
sored by the Jewish Federa-
tion Women's Division 11:30
a.m. Jan. 14 at the Embassy
Suites Hotel in Southfield.
The gathering will feature
Brian J. Kott, who chairs the
Jewish Community Council
Youth Committee and is a
member of the Quarton
School Diversity Committee,
and Beverly H. Stone, assis-
tant superintendent of in-
struction in the Rochester
Hills Community Schools.
Mr. Kott serves on the
Council's church-state and
schools committee, which is
assessing allegations of anti-
Semitism at Andover High
School. He also is a vice-
president of the American
Jewish Committee.
Ms. Stone taught in the

Oak Park schools and has
served in several admini-
strative roles in the Bloom-
field Hills and Rochester
school districts.
Food for Thought is a forum
to educate the participants on
important Jewish issues and
to reach out to women not yet
involved in Women's Division.
There will be no solicitation
of gifts. There is a charge for
the event. For reservations or

Sisterhood Sets
Service, Program-

In celebration of the 75th an- 4
niversary of the Women's
League for Conservative
Judaism, the Sisterhood of
Adat Shalom Synagogue will
mark Sisterhood Shabbat

Jan. 9.
Sisterhood members will "4
participate in the morning
service and read selected '0
prayers. Reading from the
Torah will be Nancy Handel-
man, Linda O'Desky, Sylvia
Starkman and Shoshana
Wolok.
The Sisterhood will hold an
open board meeting and pro-
gram titled "Temper, Tem-
per!" 9 a.m. Jan. 18. The
event is open to Adat Shalom
members, as well as parents
of children in the Adat dro
Shalom Nursery School.
Elissa Rosenfeld will dis-
cuss constructive ways of ex-
pressing anger in dealing -4
with your children. Mrs.
Rosenfeld leads parenting d4
groups for organizations in
the Detroit area.
A continental breakfast

gram. The board meeting will
begin at 10:30 a.m.
