School third-grad-
ers went from the
classroom to the
operating room last week
as part of a field trip to
Botsford General Hos-
pital in Farmington.
There the students
toured the ambulatory
surgery area. They were
taught about the use of
intravenous liquids and
medication. The students
were also given a tour of
an operating room and
given the chance to put
on surgical scrubs. And,
of course, they learned
how a doctor washes his
or her hands before
beginning work in the
operating room. They
were also taught what an
anesthesiologist does and
they were introduced to
hospital high tech such
as respirators and heart
monitors. ❑
