15 Sculptors
At Wetsman

From basket forms to turn-
ed wood objects, from ceramic
vessels to metalwork,
Sculptural Objects at the
Wetsman Collection through
Oct. 25 showcases shapely
forms created by 15 national-
ly recognized artists.
The show will open with a
talk on "Collecting Contem-
porary Decorative Arts"
given by Lorry Parks Dudley
1:00 p.m. October 3 at the Bir-
mingham Community House.
Ms. Dudley is the founding
director of Peter Joseph
Gallery in New York. A recep-
tion at the Wetsman Collec-
tion 3-5 p.m. follows the
lecture.
Norma Minkowitz, fiber ar-
tist, is known for crocheted
vessels which often take on
human contours. She paints
these pieces in earth tones.
Ceramist Ed Eberle limits his
palette to black and white,
creating figures drawn with
black slip on the sides of his
porcelain pots. Ken Ferguson
creates large-scale ceramic
pieces with a soft metallic
green glaze inspired by an-
cient Chinese bronzes.
Sculptural Objects also in-
cludes works by Mary
Merkel-Hess, Charles
Crowley, Todd Hoye'', Philip
Moulthrop, William Hunter,
Michelle Holzapfel, Ronald
Kent and Mike Shuler; also
ceramics by Bruce Winn and
fiber vessels from John
McQueen and Kay
Sekimachi.
The Wetsman Collection is
located at 132 N. Woodward
in Birmingham. Hours for the
exhibit are 11 a.m.-5 p.m.
