15 Sculptors At Wetsman From basket forms to turn- ed wood objects, from ceramic vessels to metalwork, Sculptural Objects at the Wetsman Collection through Oct. 25 showcases shapely forms created by 15 national- ly recognized artists. The show will open with a talk on "Collecting Contem- porary Decorative Arts" given by Lorry Parks Dudley 1:00 p.m. October 3 at the Bir- mingham Community House. Ms. Dudley is the founding director of Peter Joseph Gallery in New York. A recep- tion at the Wetsman Collec- tion 3-5 p.m. follows the lecture. Norma Minkowitz, fiber ar- tist, is known for crocheted vessels which often take on human contours. She paints these pieces in earth tones. Ceramist Ed Eberle limits his palette to black and white, creating figures drawn with black slip on the sides of his porcelain pots. Ken Ferguson creates large-scale ceramic pieces with a soft metallic green glaze inspired by an- cient Chinese bronzes. Sculptural Objects also in- cludes works by Mary Merkel-Hess, Charles Crowley, Todd Hoye'', Philip Moulthrop, William Hunter, Michelle Holzapfel, Ronald Kent and Mike Shuler; also ceramics by Bruce Winn and fiber vessels from John McQueen and Kay Sekimachi. Roman Art At Donna Jacobs "East Roman Art: From the Frontier of an Empire" will be at the Donna Jacobs Gallery through Nov. 7. produced art The throughout the Roman Em- pire was heavily influenced by the cultures it absorbed. The current exhibition of East Roman Art will display objects reflecting its complex regional history. A collection of five stone busts, large floor mosaics, bronzes, pottery, glass; textiles, oil lamps, jewelry and coins make up this exhibition. The Donna Jacobs Gallery is at 574 N.
