NEW YEAR SPECIALS
SHIRLEE BLOOM'S
TRADITIONAL
ROSH HASHANAH CARRY-OUT MENU
, Lee's 60th birthday celebra-
tion was fun.
JEWELRY DEPT. . . . An-
nette Byck now wears an en-
gagement ring recently on
, ,, <-o
her finger by Mitch Benson of
American Bulk Food.
IT'S NO MORE a lunch
spot only, as Ramone's Cafe in
r =, ,Sunset Strip on Northwestern
between 12 Mile and Mid-
dlebelt now opens evenings
also from 5 p.m.
The place is too good to be
. just a lunch operation and so
the dinner hours . . . with
C ,steak Diane, etc. . . . and
Caesar salad prepared
' tableside by Ramone just like
he used to do while maitre d'
at Restaurant Duglass
. . When requested, and it is
many times, his excellent
Caesars are made with egg
whites.
At lunchtime, the Caesar
salads are pre-made and
dressing put in when ordered
. . . Ramone's juicy turkey
burgers are also going big.
This little, very unpreten-
a tious dining spot . . . no fan-
cy booths, just tables, is a
delight . . . Here's the perfect
instance where that saying,
"You can't eat the decor"
comes into play in a large
way.
And just for good measure,
,_ how about Ramone's getting
, --a perfect 100 percent by the
Oakland County Health
Dept.? . . . I've never seen this
_/) before . . . Usually anything,
even something very small, is
> found just not to give this
l kind of a high score.
° CAN'T BELIEVE it's been
40 years since the Helen
Rosenberg Cancer Fighters
Chapter, City of Hope, was
founded . . . That first
meeting at Al Rosenberg's
Holiday Manor on Wyoming
D is a memory standout.
The anniversary will be
Sept. 21, 10 a.m., at the Sum-
mit Clubhouse in Farmington
' Hills with a special luncheon
and fashion show . . . For
more info, call chapter presi-
dent Mary Cohen, 661-6971
. . . What a wonderful couple
Helen and Tommy Rosenberg
were.
C CONGRATS . . . to Nina
Khouri . . . on hr 30th birth-
day . . . She has the boutique
) c , (jewelry, bags, belts, etc.) at
Jorjet's women's and men's
alterations in Sunset Strip on
Northwestern Highway .. .
)=-- Jorjet Khouri is Nina's mom.
DISA 'N DATA . . . Talk
has it that one of the two new
Bruschettas being opened by
'Matt Prentice's Unique
Restaurant Corp. will be at
the former Bijou site on
Southfield . . . One will be a
cafe and the other a trattoria
bistro . . . Sageo's on 11 Mile
and Middlebelt will have a
different name as of Sept. 30
. . . It'll be called Peacock
Cafe & Grill with same
owners but new decor and
menu . . . Speaking of names,
Johnny Magnum in Farm-
ington Hills will be (if not
already) Magnun & Muer.
I like this, and join with a
lot of others who do also,
knowing that when re-
quested, the chicken at
Boneyard on Orhcard Lake
Road south of 14 Mile is
skinless before being bar-b-
qued . . . This health factor is
an important one . . . Next
opera night at Sultan's, 14
Mile and Orchard Lake Road
in.Robins Nest, is set for Oct.
5 . . . Sol Lewis, director of
Michigan Hypnosis Institute
and worldwide lecturer, has
received an honorary doctor
of philosophy degree in
clinical hypnotherapy from
St. Johns University,
Louisiana.
Squeeze is the new alter-
native night club opened by
Dan Dunsky, Scott Werthman
and Mike Backalukus on
M-59 in Waterford . . . Their
no food, only drinks, spot has
music between the '50s and
rock, open Wednesday, Thurs-
day and Friday . . . Millie
Fetch is new public relations
and marketing director for
the George Burns Theatre on
Plymouth and Farmington
roads in Livonia, owned by
Stuart Gorelick and opening
Oct. 2 with George Burns and
Florence Henderson . . .
George Burns' trademarks.
the cigar and black-rimmed
glasses, will be prominently
featured in the former Mai
Kai Theatre's design theme
with fanciful sculptures and
graphics ..
Odd that more restaurant
owners aren't aware of
employees wearing long hair
over their face . . . This is
mostly prevalent in many
places where younger people
are working . . . There's
nothing so unappetizing as
being waited on by someone
with so much hair it's a
wonder they can even see.
Fellow walked into a dry
cleaning store and asked how
much to have his suit press-
ed . . . "Three dollars," said
the clerk . . . "Three dollars!"
the customer gasped. "In my
home town in Texas they dry
clean a suit for a dollar!" .. .
"I know," signed the clerk,
"but look at the train fare"
Elsie and Jack Robbins call-
ed in a neighborhood teen-
ager to babysit with their two
sons for the first time .. .
When they came home, Elsie
asked the sitter, "How are the
boys?" . . . "They never phon-
ed," said the sitter somewhat
sadly. ❑
