Helen Suzman, former
senior front-bencher in South c'
Africa's House of Assembly,
has been named the third
recipient of the University of
Michigan's Raoul Wallenberg
Medal. She will deliver the
annual Wallenberg Lecture
titled, "South Africa in Tran-
sition: Past and Present In-
fluences," 8 p.m. Sept. 16 in
the Rackham Auditorium.
Throughout her 36 years in
Parliament, Ms. Suzman
worked consistently to in-
stigate change in South
Africa's apartheid system.
University President James
Duderstadt will present the
Wallenberg medal which was o
established in 1989 in honor
of University alumnus Raoul
Wallenberg (Architecture '35)
who saved the lives of many ' 2
thousands of Hungarian Jews
at the end of World War II.
