Anti-Semitism
In Estonia

New York (JTA) — Jews in
'Estonia are experiencing an
upsurge in anti-Semitism
along with the threat of be-
oing deprived of their civil
rights, Jewish groups are
reporting.
In a letter to B'nai B'rith
international in Washing-
ton, a Jew in the capital city
'ef Tallinn detailed some
unsettling incidents, saying
new developments in
Estonia "menace life and
calmness of Jews."
Among the incidents re-
ported are threatening
phone calls, graffiti, news-
papers articles and cemetery
desecrations.
Mark Levin, acting ex-
ecutive director of the Na-
4ional Conference on Soviet
Jewry, said, "The conference
Jas been monitoring this for
a long time, and will con-
tinue to make approaches to
the appropriate government
officials here and abroad."
Although Estonia's just-
1 T'atified constitution disen-
tranchises some 600,000
persons, most of them of
Russian origin, Jews are re-
ported being particularly
N'targeted by nationalist, even
Nazi-like elements.
0 The new Estonian Con-
stitution decrees that
k--esidents who were not
,emselves or whose parents
Tv— ere not registered
residents in Estonia in 1938
are not Estonian citizens.
Such persons cannot vote
and cannot own property. By
the end of this year, such
persons could also be pro-
hibited from being employed
in civil service jobs.
The new Estonian law re-
quires families who came to
the Baltic state at the time
iof the Soviet occupation in
1940 to wait a year for
'citizenship, and then only
after passing an Estonian-
language proficiency exam.
The Jews have been la-
beled Soviet collaborators
getting marching orders
from "international Zion-
iwn," according to the World
Jewish Congress and the
National Conference.
Tombstones were recently
desecrated at a Jewish
psemetery in. Tartu, site of a
concentration camp during
World War II.
A rally by a Slavic group
last month turned into a
strongly anti-Semitic
gathering, reports the Union
i kif Councils for Soviet Jews.

The Jewish population of

r. stonia is very small,

believed now to number only
about 3,500.

Chiropractic Health Hints

WITH DR. STANLEY LEVINE, D.C.

DISC DEGENERATION

Many people who have had spinal X-rays have been told they have
degenerated discs and may have needlessly accepted the suffering without
exploring all treatment avenues which might possibly help.
With age, almost all discs will degenerate due to a variety of factors
such as previous injury, genetics, and other unknown factors. Some discs
begin to degenerate at an early age. Many adults will have a single disc
in their lower back begin to "thin" by age 35 to 40 years.
When a disc begins to degenerate, it allows the joint to move improperly
causing pinching of the joint. The term used for this is "impingement."
As impingement is the source of the pain, not the disc degeneration itself,
treatment which corrects impingement will often totally relieve the pain
associated with disc degeneration.
Chiropractic manipulation has proven to be a good method of correction of the impingement
associated with disc degeneration. In a large study of chronic back patients at the Department
of Orthopedics at University Hospital, Saskatchewan, researchers found that chiropractic manipula-
tion was 80% effective in relieving back pain. Many patients had disc degeneration causing joint
impingement and yet still had good results with chiropractic manipulation.
Anyone who has been condemned to a life of back pain because of degeneration should con-
sider chiropractic treatment.
