Ludwig Boraks

N. Norman Goldenberg, of
Oak park, died July 20. He
wns 80.
He was an engineer for Ef-
ficient Engineering Co. until
retiring in 1987. He was a
rriember of Temple Kol Ami
and was active with Jewish
National Fund, Oak Park and
\Craftsman Lodge.
' He leaves his wife, Esther;
slaughter and son-in-law, Don-
na and Larry Sklar of Farm-
ington Hills; brother and
sister-in-law, Leo and Ellen of
--,-;uthfield; three grand-
children; one great-grand-
daughter.

alinski, the leader of Ger-
many's postwar Jewish
c6mmunity and an
outspoken critic of neo-
azism, died in Berlin
a llowing heart surgery last
month. He was 79.
A survivor of three concen-
tration camps — Auschwitz,
Etachenwald and Bergen-
Belsen — mr. Galinski
eturned to Berlin at the end
of World War II, when only
1,000 Jews remained from
he 160,000 who lived there
before the war, and became a
y figure in the postwar
history of the Jewish com-
unity there.
In 1988, shortly after he
pecame chairman of the
Central Council of Jews in
- rmany, he stunned world
Jewry with the announce-
ment that his late
. redecessor, Werner
Nachmann, had diverted for
personal use some $12 mill-
ion intended for Holocaust
wictims.
In 1989, he was elected
vice president of the Euro-
pean Jewish Congress, a
position he held until his
death.
