Transportation
Set For Seniors

Door to Door Transporta-
tion to the Oak Park Jewish
Community Center is offered
to senior adults. This service
is provided through the
cooperative efforts of the
Jewish Community Center,
the Jewish Information Ser-
vice, the Jewish Welfare
Federation and Jerome
Glassman.
Pick-up is scheduled for the
following areas: Monday —
Southfield and Detroit;
Wednesday — Northwest
Detroit, Oak Park, Royal
Oak, Southfield and Berkley;
Thursday — Oak Park and
Southfield; Friday — Oak
Park, Royal Oak, Berkley.
Passengers are picked up at
their homes beginning at 9:30
a.m. and return from the
Center at 3 p.m. A donation
of $1 for the round trip is
suggested.
To initiate service, contact
the Jewish Information Ser-
vice, 967-4357.
In order to accommodate
the transportation needs of
older adult apartment
dwellers, the Jewish Com-
munity Center offers an
apartment shuttle to persons
living within a mile of the
Jimmy Prentis Morris
Building. The shuttle brings
seniors to the JPM building
each weekday at approx-
imately 9:30 a.m. and makes
a return trip at 2:30 p.m.

The Senior Adult Depart-
ment's Yiddish Discussion
Group will be held 1 p.m. Ju-
ly 13 in the library of the
Maple-Drake building. You
need not be an expert in
Yiddish.
The Men's Club of the
Maple-Drake Jewish Com-
munity Center will host Al
Schneider, insurance consul-
tant from Imco Citizens In-
surance Company, who will
speak on the changes in in-
surance coverage, policies,
health care and more, 10 a.m.
July 13 in the Staff Lounge.
Bagels and coffee will be
provided.
The Low Vision Support
Groups of the Jewish Com-
munity Center will take a
trip to Kensington Metro
Park for a picnic lunch and
cruise of Kent Lake on the
Island Queen July 15. The
group will depart from the
Jimmy Prentis Morris build-
ing 11 a.m. and the Maple-
Drake building 11:30 a.m. Re-
servations are required and
there is a fee for the transpor-

tation and boat ride. For infor-

The Senior Adult Depart-
ment will present a program
of light classical music with
Sidney Mann, classical
violinist and Zina Astrakhan,
pianist, 1 p.m. July 20 in
Room 310. Refreshments will
be served; there is a fee.
The JCC will present Deci-
sion 1992, a public forum
featuring the 11th District
candidates for the United
States Congress, 10 a.m. Ju-
ly 20 in the Museum/Gallery
of the Maple-Drake building.
Moderating will be WXYT
talk show host, Victoria
Jones. Participating can-
didates are Walter Briggs,
Judge Alice Gilbert, state
Sen. Dave Honigman, Joe
Knollenberg and Michael
Meyer. This forum will be
sign-interpreted and open to
the public at no charge.
The JCC, through a grant
from the Community Founda-
tion of Southeastern Michi-
gan, has purchased a closed
circuit TV (electronic reading
and writing magnification
aide) to be used by individuals
with vision impairments.
This machine is available for
individual use in the Center's
library at the Maple-Drake
building during regular
library hours.

JPM Seniors
Plan Events

Singing Blacksmith, a Yid-
dish language film with
English subtitles, will be
shown 10 a.m. July 14 at the
Jimmy Prentis Morris Jewish
Community Center. There is
no charge.
A classical music concert
featuring pianist Laura
Schwartz and flutist Diana
Lieberman will be presented
1 p.m. July 16 at the JPM.
The program is sponsored by
the JCC's Yiddish Culture
Club. Tickets are available at
no charge to members; there
is a fee for non-members.
"Remaining Independents"
will be the focus of a presen-
tation by Km-en Kessler of the
Visiting Nurse Association of
Southeast Michigan 10:30
a.m. July 13 at the JPM.
A federally-funded kosher
hot lunch program is offered
Monday through Friday at
the JPM. Meals are reserved
beginning 10 a.m. each week
day on a first-come, first-
served basis for persons age
60 and older. A donation of $2
is suggested. Call Cora Ter-
rell, 968-1260, for more
information.
Beginning
folkdance
lessons are available at 9:30
a.m. Tuesdays at the JPM.
