a loving message from her
and Ruby . . . Janet and Iry
Levine, Bobby and Bunny
Leach . . . People showing pic-
tures they had brought of
days gone by . . . David
Glasier, Sol and Sonja Gar-
field, Lucy Simon . . . Sol
remembering back when he
and I went to Crossman
Elementary together a lot of
years ago and recalling the
song I sang then, "Piccolo
Pete" . . . What a memory,
that was in the second grade!
Jules and Rose were in most
of the stills taken during the
brunch with thoughts of days
when he was doing all the
clicking . . . a Detroit Times
photographer before it folded
, and then in business for
himself . . . Today, Jules is
H with his sons Mike and Ron
in Hamilton, Miller, Hudson
and Fayne Travel . . . Of the
;_-Th four-name agency, only Fayne
exists.
I
Wabeek Country Club club-

house overlooks the golf
course with players trying to
have a good game . . . Jules
and Rose Fayne celebrated 50
_ and 51 years with remem-
brances of ups and downs, too
. . . but always having a good
game . . . This is what their
life together has been all
about.

games, here's one that at-
torney Steve Bright can talk
about all he wants . . . It's his
,

175-yard ninth hole at Shen-
andoah Country Club with
barrister friend Steve Bock
and others watching . . . The
ace came with Steve Bright
using a number seven wood in

TRADITIONAL JEWISH
Recipes is the name of a cook-

book produced for Temple
Beth Shalom in Las Vegas by
former Detroiter Maurey
Pastor . . . with juicy-
sounding recipes that take in
just about everything
necessary for complete meals.
But there's more to the book
than just recipes . . . even tell-
ing people to drink water
when unable to brush after a
meal because it helps prevent
tooth decay . . . and how to
limit shoulder pain from ten-
donitis or bursitis, etc. . . . The
Jewish recipes themselves are
superb and most important,
very well put together for
easy-to-follow use.
Maurey, now 81, moved

from hereabouts in 1962,
went to California and has
resided in Vegas since 1977
. . . He started Pastor
Cleaners, still on Grand River
and Fullerton, and Pastor
Wall and Carpet Cleaners on
James Couzens and Eight
Mile plus doing some con-
struction work here . . . His
recollections of yesteryears
are vivid memories of fond
recall.
To get the book, make a
check for $15 payable to Tem-
ple Beth Shalom . . . and mail
it to Maurice J. Pastor, 1901
Culle De Vega, Las Vegas,
Nev. 89102 . . . Traditional
Jewish Recipes is one of the
better cookbooks I have read
in this realm of food
preparation.
THREE MAJOR founders
of the originally called West
Side Tennis Club on
Cheyenne and Groves in
1947, Dr. Joe Curhan, Dr. Lou
Rosenthal and lawyer Daniel
Manason, never dreamed of
its huge growth.
It was to them a place
where Jews could play tennis
in an atmosphere free of pre-
judice and hostility . . . Then,
as now, the membership in-
cluded and welcomed people
of all races and religions.
lbday, as the Detroit Tennis
and Squash Club on Drake
Road just south of 14 Mile, its
Fourth Annual Western
Super Seniors Clay Court
Championship is being held
this weekend (Thurs. thru
Sun.) . . . Participants are
divided into six categories .. .
55, 60, 65, 70, 75, and 80 .. .
Last year, 110 players from
nine states entered the Sen-
iors Clay Court Champion-
ship . . . many nationally
ranked.
DISA 'N DATA . . . A cou-
ple of his previous standbys
are back with Dimitri Syros
at Dimitri's Diner on 10 Mile
and Northwestern off Ever-
green . . , Ed Bowlin and
Denise Bufalini, waitpersons
at the former Dimitri's of
Southfield . . . Ed is evening
manager and Denise an even-
ing waitress . . . Former Flin-
tonian Elizabeth Binder, now
a learning disabilities teacher
for Fulton County Middle
School in Atlanta, was the on-
ly teacher selected to
chaperone students to Russia
for the People to People Pro-
gram this summer . . . Her
parents are Pat and Al Binder
. . . when it opened Aug. 8,
1985 at Meadowbrook
Village, Kruse and Muer
Quality Foods served menu
items from styrofoam plates
because there was no room for
a dishwasher . . . Its kitchen
has finally been expanded
and as of today, china will be
used for the first time. 111
