Carol Israel

Installation Lunch
At Temple Beth El

Carol Israel will be install-
ed as the 44th president of the
Temple Beth El Sisterhood at
a noon May 18 luncheon at
the temple. The luncheon will
feature a musical program
presented by Cantor Gail
Hirschenfang and Gale
Kramer, pianist.
A former Sisterhood
treasurer, Carol Israel also
has served as a Sisterhood
vice president of administra-
tion, gift shop and commisary.
Twice chair of the sisterhood's
annual Party Planning
Showcase, she also is active in
many temple projects and has
served on the library, religi-
ous school, membership and
worship and ritual commit-
tees. She served as an officer
in the National Federation of
Temple Sisterhoods, District
11, where she was a vice
president and parliamen-
tarian. Carol is a life member
of Hadassah.
Other officers being install-
ed are Elaine Sturman, Sybil
Lerner, Sandy Moss, Shelly
Fogelman, Faye Goldman and
Lynn Newman, vice presi-
dents. Also, Janis Warren,
FayeClare Blau, treasurers;
Laurel Epstein, Linda Ber-
man, Miriam Cohen and
Laura Wise, secretaries.

Two members of Adat
Shalom will share their
knowledge of Jewish history
in the sisterhood's spring
series, "From Our Members
With Love" 12:30 p.m. May 12
at the synagogue.
Renee Wohl will present a
program :titled "1939 —
Voyage of the Damned: Peo-
ple, Power and Politics." Her
talk will focus on how the
Jewish community responded
to crisis and the refugee ques-
tion. She will show the video
short "Bound for Nowhere."
Renee is director of the
Resource Center of the Agen-
cy for Jewish Education and
serves on the Adat Shalom
Adult Study Commission.
Miriam Rose, a longtime
member of the synagogue and
a docent at the Holocuast
Center, has done research on
Sephardic Jewry. She will
discuss "The Life and Times
of Joseph Nasi" 12:30 p.m.
May 19. The program will of-
fer a glimpse of the Jewish
life from Spain to Turkey dur-
ing the 16h century.
Refreshments will be serv-
ed. There is no charge. For in-

Pisgah Women
Install Officers

The Detroit Business and
Professional/Pisgah Women
of B'nai B'rith will have their
luncheon and installation of
officers noon May 17 at
Farina's Catering on Coolidge
Highway in Berkley. Reserva-
tions are a must and there is
a charge.
The following officers were
elected to serve for 1992/1993:
president, Dorothy Goldberg;
vice presidents, Edith Good-
man, Sarene Mazer; secreta-
ries, Lillian Bratt, Marion
Morgan, Esther Goodman,
