C Moishe Haar was the direc-
tor and principal of Sholem
Aleichem Institute and its
\ school for many years. He was
j an educator, scholar, lecturer,
) dramatist and teacher of
teachers. The Moishe Haar
1emorial Foundation was es-
tablished for the continuation
of Jewish culture in Metropo-
litan Detroit.
The program, featuring ex-
cerpts from Itsik Manger's
Megilla Lider and Medresh It-
>sik, will be performed by the
1 Golden Peacock, performers
who involve the audience in
\ the harmonies of Yiddish
2 speech by letting them hear.
The format of the program al-
ternates segments of English
\>,and Yiddish; they interpolate
' Yiddish songs thematically
related to the readings.
The group features Ben
Schaechter, a musicologist
1 and composer, at the piano;
Yelena Ostrovsky, former so-
prano soloist with the Lenin-
grad State Philharmonic, will
-_,--4ing; Suzanne Toren, actress,
will read; and Leonard Wolf,
writer, founder and director of
this group, also will read.
) This performance is co-
sponsored by the Moishe
Haar Foundation and the
\ , George M. & Pearl A. Zeltzer

Moscow Hosts
Conference

Moscow (JTA) — A two-day
"International Conference
) on Genocide" opened here
last week, attended by more
than 700 people.
The conference, sponsored
?in part by the Russian Min-
istry of Culture, was
organized by the Moscow
Jewish Cultural and Educa-
tional Society.
In addition to panel
discussions, the conference
featured an exhibition of
photographs borrowed from
Yad Vashem, the Holocaust
Memorial Museum in
Jerusalem, depicting life in
the Warsaw Ghetto, and the
dedication of a memorial in
D honor of the dead.
The group's main goal is to
attract the attention of Rus-
sian society, a spokesman
said.
