Wine tasting was from the
Antinori family of Florence,
Italy, one of the world's oldest
wine producers, celebrating
over 600 years as vintners.
The food put out by Joe,
Aldo and Jeffry highly com-
plemented the fine bouquets
of tasting.
Andiamo Italia is an east-
side classic with its white
linen table cloths, white
napkins, beautiful colored
halogen lamps hanging from
long cords over booths, tones
of grays and blacks, etc.

So many people remember
Aldo from Aldo's restaurant
years back on Kelly and
Seven Mile and were happy to
see him as Joe introduced the
master and Jeffry for much-
deserved applause.
Dino Valle, baritone, sang
lustily with Peter Soave on
the chromatic accordion as
they strolled among the fun-
festing people . . . George Zeff,
representing the wines from
Cloverleaf, sang French, Yid-
dish ("Where Can I Go") and
dueted with Dino on "Finiculi
Finicula" in Italian and
"Hava Nagila" in Yiddish.
AFTER 35 YEARS of no
contact with each other, a
coincidence brought two old
friends together again . . . Dr.
Donald Shore in San Diego
met Noreen Levitt on a date
and when she mentioned the
name "Shore" to her mother,
a connection was made .. .
Donald called his mom here
and asked if she ever knew a
Ruth Berman . . . In no time,
Sandy Shore was on a plane
for San Diego and a wonder-
ful reunion of many memories
with Ruth, who Sandy says
still has a beautiful singing
voice and sends regards.

notice, she joined the chorus
line.
When Ann returned to her
seat, Michiganders in the au-
dience asked for her auto-
graph, says Jules . . . and
wherever she goes, from the
supermarket to Temple
Isaiah, she is stopped and
asked, "Aren't you the Queen
of the Palm Springs Follies?"
CONGRATS . . . to Rose
and Dave Weiss . . . on their
50th anniversary . . . Recent
party was at the Ventura
Club in Sherman Oaks, Calif.
A lot of nostalgia was ex-
changed by former Detroiters
. . . best man Dr. Henry
Greenberg of Florida, Sy
Finkel, Ruth Klein (formerly
Ruth Farber) and Dr. Richard
and Rita Barshak . . . Rose's
brother and sister-in-law, Abe
and Pearl Friedman, flew in
from hereabouts . . . bringing
with them the wedding gown
in which Rose was married,
which had been Pearl's when
she and Abe were married 52
years ago.
Rose was a wardrobe
mistress 17 years with ABC
and made trips with Bob
Hope from 1968 to 1972 for
his USO specials . . . After
leaving ABC she worked
directly with the "Lawrence
Welk Show" for over 30 years.
Her parents, Sam and Sadie
Friedman, had a tailor shop
on Hastings, between Theo-
dore and Farnsworth, across
from the Warfield Theater .. .
"This particular block,"
writes Abe, "also had
Schlossberg's Hardware Store
— home to Sonny Eliot,
Boesky's Deli, Hack's Shoe
Store, and Sosin's Candy
Store where Max Sosin lived
after being brought over from
Europe by his brother."

WAITPERSON TIP . . .

Not a bad idea to return a
customer's credit card with
"Thank You, Mr. or Ms.
Jones" or whatever . . . mak-
ing certain to note the
customer's name on the
plastic.
RECENTLY IN Palm
Springs, Fla., where the Palm
Springs Follies opened for a
20-week run at the Plaza
Theatre, Jules Doneson and
wife Ann attended the
premiere performance of the
show, whose cast runs in age
from 52 to 97.
Seated in the second row,
the localites were spotted by
producer Riff Markowitz
before the first intermission
and he picked Ann from the
audience to answer some
selected questions.
Satisfied with her answers,
Riff then named Ann the
Queen of the Palm Beach
Follies, took her by the hand,
gave Ann a crown and gown
and, without preparation or

LOCALITES Linda Novet-

sky Mendelson and Donald
Mendelson again won top
Michigan Watercolor Society
awards for the second con-
secutive year in the 46th an-
nual Michigan Watercolor
Exhibition . . . Linda is an ad-
junct associate professor at
the Center for Creative
Studies and Donald is a pro-
fessor at Oakland Communi-
ty College.
LOOKING BACK on col-
umns of yesteryears .. .
Sept. 12, 1947 . . .
"CHILDREN'S DEPT. . . .
After starting school, last
week, for the first time, little
Edmund Kanter came home
. . . was asked by Mrs. I.
Kanter what he had learned
that day . . . and replied,
`Nothing much. I've got to go
back again."
IT'S OFFICIALLY spring
when Key Largo on Walled
Lake opens its outdoor deck
. . . which it did April 8. ❑
