Swidler Gallery will feature
abstract paintings by Dennis
M. Jones and sculpture by
Dennis Tobin Feb. 15-March
14. An opening reception will
be held 6-8:30 p.m. Feb. 15
with a slide talk by Dennis
Jones at 5 p.m.
Dennis Jones layers acrylic
paint, shellac, metallic
powders, dust and earth on
his 4'x4' panels and 18'x18"
mylar paintings. Mr. Jones, of
Westland, teaches at Wayne
State University where he
received his MFA in 1990.
Also an architect, Mr. Jones
has exhibited in the Detroit
area.
Dennis Tobin, assistant pro-
fessor, Miami University, Ox-
ford, Ohio, creates abstract
encaustic-covered clay
sculptures. Mr. Tobin has ex-
hibited nationally in one-
person and group exhibitions.
Among his awards are an Ar-
tist Fellowship, Illinois Arts
Council and a Visual Arts
Fellowship from the National
Endowment for the Arts.
Swidler Gallery is at 308

Building, Royal Oak. Gallery
hours are Tuesday-Saturday

The Southfield Parks and
Recreation's Cultural Arts
Division will feature the mix-
ed media of Doug Beauchene
in the Civic Center Gallery,
26000 Evergreen, Feb. 17-28
9 a.m.-9 p.m., Monday-Friday,
and 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on
Saturdays.
Born in Detroit, raised in
Southfield, Doug enjoys pain-
ting pictures in a modern
style of the older commercial
and residential areas of the ci-
ty. He is self,taught and has
been a colorist in several
techniques and styles. Some
of his work includes working
in wood, several types of
paints, oils, acrylics and
plasterboard.

Museum/Gallery
Plans Classes

A five-week hands-on art
experience and instruction for
children and teens will begin
the week of March 1 at the
Janice Charach Epstein
Museum/Gallery. Classes will
be held on Sundays 1:30-3
p.m. or Thursdays 4:30-6 p.m.
for children ages 8-16.
