and he decided to get his first
haircut in Tinsel Town. His
acting career was about to
skyrocket.
"As I was getting my hair
cut, I asked people if they
knew of any entertainment
agencies in the area," Mr.
Hoffman said. "Someone
came over with a Vanity Fair
magazine and started reading
an article about Ed Limato,
the Hollywood agent who
represents Richard Gere, Mel
Gibson, Michelle Pfeiffer,
Geena Davis and Ellen
Barkin."
With a little bit of
theatrical training and a lot
of chutzpah, Mr. Hoffman
walked to International
Creative Management Agen-
cy, went up to the receptionist
and said, "Ed Limato, please."
The receptionist dialed Mr.
Limato's office and, after a
few seconds, asked Mr. Hoff-
man if he was with the Eddie
Collins group to pick up the
package. Without waiting for
him to answer she told him to
go right on up.
Mr. Limato, impressed with
the young man's chutzpah,
sent him to another agent
who could take the time to
groom the actor.
On one trip to Universal
Studios, his agent sent him to
audition for a new production
of Three O'Clock High.
He told the casting director,
"You know, I read for that
film about six years ago in
Chicago!"
"As I left the audition," Mr.
Hoffman said, "the casting
director ran up to me and
pulled out a Polaroid picture,
my picture — the picture that
was taken of me in Chicago
six years ago."
"At that moment some-
thing was telling me that I
was doing the right thing,"
Mr. Hoffman said. "This was
a little sign from God. In this
life you don't know what path
to choose. Sometimes you
have to have blind faith that
what you choose to do in life
will work out. And that was
a sign to let me know I'm do-
ing the right thing and to
keep pushing on."

On Sept. 18, Yom Kippur
night, Mr. Hoffman made his
prime-time debut on "Teeth."

In real life, Mr. Hoffman's
mom is a party planner in
West Bloomfield; his father is
in the clothing business;
while his two younger
brothers, Matt and Seth, are
making headlines for North
Farmington in basketball and
tennis.
"I'm very blessed, and I'm
very lucky," concedes Josh
Hoffman. "I'm doing some-
thing that I love." ❑
