GREAT LOCATION.

a small, friendly hotel with the dedication to service and

Kolton on bass and Danny
Spenser on drums.
It was opening night for
"Jazz at R.I.K.s," a weekly
Thursday evening fixture in
the beautiful lounge, and the
huge crowd applauded the
group's progressive jazz that
included the warbling of Ur-
sula Walker as it awaited
Eric's appearance . . . His
duet with Ursula on "Un-
forgettable" was most
memorable and many in the
audience wished Sammy
could have been there to join
them.

"The Song Is You," a
Jerome Kern masterpiece
with its faster pace, showed
Eric's ability to ride the notes
in smooth transition . . . It
seemingly was so apropos
that Eric should begin his ses-
sion with "Unforgettable" as
Sammy's wife, Ann Woolf,
and Eric's mom, Marg
"Sissie" Cohen, and dad
Maurice Cohen, plus so many
family and friends were there
to hear him on opening night.
The group is at R.I.K.'s The
Restaurant every Thursday
from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m., with
Marcus Belgrave and George
Benson alternating each
week . . . Friday and Saturday
night "Jazz At R.I.K.'s"
features Buddy Budson, Dan
Kolton and Ursula Walker.
Jazz nights at Home Sweet
Home in Novi is every Tues-
day and Wednesday with the
Buddy Budson band of Mar-
cus Belgrave, George Benson,
Don Kolton, Danny Spenser
and vocalists Eric Brandon
and Ursula Walker.
Buddy Budson is Eric's
pianist/arranger, and with his
bass player accompanied Eric
when he sang as a guest
newcomer presented by Mar-
cus Belgrave at the recent Or-
chestra Hall concert by Ray
Charles with the Detroit
Symphony Orchestra.
Like I say, young Eric
knows he has a way to go to
be like Pappa Sam . . . but in
his favor are the right path-
ways . . . like being a nice per-
son and having a talent that
will certainly continue to
swing him in the right direc-
tion . . . Best of all, Eric has
the ability to make it on his
own.
DISA 'N DATA ... E.G.
