Lunch, Learn
Opens Series

Rabbi David Nelson will
present the first in a series of
eight monthly presentations
in a Lunch and Learn Series
co-sponsored by B'nai B'rith
Michigan Regional Council,
the Midrasha-College of
Jewish Studies and the
Michigan Board of Rabbis
noon Oct. 17 at the United
Hebrew Schools building.
Rabbi Nelson will speak on
"A Look at the Future of
Christian Jewish Relations."
A kosher buffet lunch will be
served.
Rabbi Nelson has been in-
volved in the Muslim-Jewish-
Christian clergy trilogy at the
Greater Detroit Interfaith
Round Table and the
Ecumenical Institute for
Jewish and Christian Studies
along with many long-term
relationships in the Protes-
tant and Catholic communi-
ties.
There is a charge for the
session. A reduced rate is of-
fered to participants enrolling
for the whole series.

Nov. 21 with Cecelia Lakin
speaking on "Jewish and

Birmingham Temple
Sets Story Hours

The Birmingham Temple
will host a Shabbat story
hour for children ages 3-6 11
a.m.-noon Oct. 19, Nov. 9 and
Dec. 4.
Parents and young children
can celebrate a cultural and
Humanistic Shabbat with
songs, stories, ethical values
and Shabbat challah. There is
no charge.

Aish HaTorah, in coopera-
tion with the National Jewish
outreach program will spon-
sor five-week Hebrew crash
courses. Both introductory
and intermediate levels will
be offered.
The introductory class will
meet at Young Israel of
Southfield on Tuesday nights,
7:30-9 p.m. beginning Oct. 29.
The course will be taught by
Mrs. Debbi Wrotslaysky.
For graduates of the first
level reading program, or for
those who want to better
their skills, the second level
course will be held at Ohel
Moed of Congregation
Shomrey Emunah in West
Bloomfield Monday nights
7:30-9 p.m. beginning Oct. 28.
Esther Sperka will teach this
course.

Dr. Sylvia Hacker, associate
professor at the University of
Michigan, will speak at a
parenting conference, "Sex-
uality Beyond the Birds and
the Bees . . . Children's Sex-
uality: Parents' Dilemma"
sponsored by the Birm-
ingham Temple 1-4 p.m. Oct.
20 at the temple.
Dr. Hacker is a sex
educator, consultant and
speaker who teaches courses
on human sexuality at the
University of Michigan's
School of Nursing and School
of Public Health.
The parenting conference is
sponsored in cooperation with
Jewish Experiences for
Families (J.E.F.F.). Registra-
tion is required. There is a
charge.

Temple Beth El
Concert Series

The Loren B. Fischer
Cultural Arts Series for
Children and Their Families
will begin its second season 1
p.m. Oct. 20 at Temple Beth
El.
The opening performance
will feature the Clark Fami-
ly Players who will present a
variety show featuring the
magic of "The Amazing
Clark" and the clown antics
of Mary Ellen and Gerry.
During the clown portion of
the show, children will be in-
vited to dress in costume and
perform in a skit.
