BACKGROUND: Judi Radin
grew up in Oak Park and
attended Oak Park Public
Schools. She was confirmed at
Temple Beth El. Her parents
owned Friedenberg Furni-
ture, which her grandfather
started. Her maternal
grandparents also were in the
furniture business.
At age 7, she began
playing golf and bridge. "I
didn't want to go to camp in
the summer, so I played golf."
She enjoyed playing with her
father. At the same time, her
parents were learning how to
play bridge. She and her
brother, Jerry, would

her parents could practice the

At age 15, she sprained
her wrist and could not play
golf during the summer.
Rather than stay at home, her
mother insisted that she go to
her bridge club. That summer
she became immersed in
bridge. She started entering
tournaments and won. She
also played bridge with her
high school teacher, Keith
Rossin.
In two years, she became
a life master and began
teaching and coaching bridge.
For 20 years, she was the
youngest player to achieve
that standing. Although she
enjoyed playing professional
bridge, she had a firm
understanding with her
parents that she would
graduate college. While
