Ceramic Exhibit
The Rubiner Gallery will
open an exhibition of ceramic
mosaic sculpture and reliefs
by New York artist Susan
Tunick. The artist will be pre-
sent for a reception 2-6 p.m.
Oct. 5. It is open to the public.
The exhibition will continue
through Oct. 31.
Ms. Tunick uses fired clay
shards, mirror fragments and
painted grout to create
dimensional free-standing
sculptures and wall reliefs.
Trained as a painter and a
ceramicist, she combines both
disciplines in her work, using
the ceramic shards to form
shapes and textures. The
results are rich, vibrant sur-
faces that react to light and
have a shimmering, dancing
quality.
Susan Tunick lives and
works in New York City. She
received her MFA and BA
from Bennington College.
Her work has been exhibited
in many museums including
the Whitney Museum of
American Art in New York,
the Aldrich Museum of Art in
Connecticut and Southeast-
ern Center for Contemporary
Art in North Carolina.
In conjunction with the ex-
hibition, she will give a lec-
ture and slide presentation on
the history of tile at Pewabic
Pottery 7 p.m. Oct. 4.
