Education Classes
Listed In Catalog
The MAKOR catalog, a
directory of adult Jewish
education classes to be held
this fall and winter through-
out the Jewish community,
will be distributed by the
Jewish Federation of
Metropolitan Detroit.
MAKOR (Source) is the
Federation-sponsored pro-
gram to promote adult Jewish
education. Individuals pledge
to participate a minimum of
18 hours per year in a Jewish-
content course of study, in-
cluding Jewish text, history,
religion and Hebrew
language. Courses may be
taken through synagogue and
temple study groups and
retreats, the Midrasha,
private study groups, univer-
sities or Federation-sponsored
programs.
The catalog will feature a
listing of courses for new
Americans, as well as classes
in arts, crafts, film and fic-
tion; Halachah; Hebrew —
beginners, intermediate and
advanced; history and
politics; Jewish family and
home; Judaism; laws,
customs, holidays, life cycles;
philosophy and ethics;
Talmud; Torah and Yiddish.
A reference guide at the
front of the book lists loca-
tions where the classes will
be held. A list of persons who
have pledged to participate
also appears in the catalog.

Lip Reading At JCC
The Jewish Community
Center will offer a newly
developed course in lip
reading techniques as part of
the Center's ongoing effort to
encourage participation at
the Center by those with
hearing impairments.
This eight-session course is
appropriate for those with
varying degrees of lip reading
proficiency and is offered in
co-ordination with the
Center's Hearing Loss Peer
