The Community Jewish
High School will offer a varie-
ty of classes for teen-agers in
8th through 11th grade.
Students may choose an in-
depth course of Judaic studies
complementing their pre-
vious Jewish education or
select a less formal mode of
study in one of the many
"track classes."
Hebrew is available at dif-
ferent levels and will be
taught using the Interactive
Computer/Video Hebrew
Language Lab. Beginning
students can choose "Chug
Ivri: User-friendly Hebrew"
or begin an intensive course
of Hebrew studies. Hebrew
Literature and Conversa-
tional Hebrew are being of-
fered for advanced Hebrew
students and for those who
have graduated from Hebrew
Day School Programs.
Track programs offer two
hours of concentrated study.
Tracks include: "Community
Service Track": Getting In-
volved in the Jewish Com-
munity; "Performing Arts
Track": AACT Troupe — Au-
dience and Actors Create
Together and The Jewish
Theatre Project — a
Bicultural Experience. New
this year is the "Political Ac-
tion Track" for teen-agers
who want to be politically
aware and involved in our
community. Students signing
up for this Track will be mat-
ched with leaders in our com-
munity in a mentor program
and experience the Jewish

community process first-
hand.

presented by leaders in our
community.
Registration is open to all
Jewish teen-agers in the
metropolitan Detroit area.
Financial assistance is
available.

Programs to promote
Jewish education in new and
non-traditional learning en-
vironments were granted a
total of $26,000 from the Max
M. Fisher Jewish Communi-
ty Foundation of United
Jewish Charities.
The Jewish Discovery Room
at the Jewish Community
Center received an $11,000
grant for the hands-on activi-
ty center for young children,
along with their parents and
school groups. The year-old
Discovery Room features
Judaic and community sym-
bols, multi-media resources,
interactive projects and
educational activities to
foster Jewish identity and
affiliation.
The Agency for Jewish
Education, in cooperation
with the University of
Michigan, received $10,000 to

begin a computer and interac-
tive video project. The pro-
gram will develop instruc-
tional materials by introduc-
ing a new learning environ-
ment based on computers and
two-way video technology.
The Panim el Panim "High
School in Washington" Pro-
gram of the Agency for
Jewish Education received
$5,000 to send up to 20 high
school students to meet with
government officials, and
learn about the political
system and its relationship to
the Jewish community.
In partnership with the
Jewish Federation of
Metropolitan Detroit, the
Fisher Foundation distributes
unrestricted endowment in-
come from UJC to a wide
range of programs not covered
by the operating budgets of
Federation agencies.
