peaceful internal develop-
ment. It is no secret, however,
that countries like Syria, Iraq
and Libya do have aggressive
intentions toward Israel.
Other countries in the area,
which do not appear to
threaten us today, are always
subject to revolution,
assassination or other radical
changes in government which
could bring about abrupt
changes in policy. There are
ample precedents.
Professor Yosef Rom, of
Technion's Department of
Aerospace Engineering, calls
attention to the fact that
Israel government participa-
tion in the advancement of
higher education and scien-
tific and technological
research here has entered a
period of proportionate
decline, and a red light of war-
ning should flash on. For-
tunate are those institutions
which have a devoted cadre of
loyal and dedicated sup-
porters overseas who realize
that the physical security of
Israel, as well as its economic
well-being, depends on the
proper education and training
of its youth. ❑

Magen David Adorn
Expands Services
Tel Aviv — Magen David
Adorn (MDA) is to modernize
its telecommunications
technology as a major step to
upgrading the MDA Emer-
gency Medical Services
program.
The resulting telecom-
munication service, which
receives emergency calls and
dispatches and tracks am-
bulances, will work more ef-
ficiently and responsively.
In addition, the telemetry
system capabilities will pro-
vide the MDA ambulance
paramedics with direct com-
munication to hospital
emergency rooms and the
transmission of ECG informa-
tion to the hospital awaiting
the patient's arrival.
Dr. Eugene Nagel, the
"father of paramedic pro-
grams in the United States,"
said that the telecommunica-
tions service together with
the reorganization of the
MDA Emergency Medical
System will advance
emergency medical services
in Israel, as it would allow
MDA to save the lives of more
victims of cardiac arrests,
trauma and accidents.
The American Red Magen
David for Israel and the MDA
supporting societies
throughout the world have
been asked to raise the
$5,000,000 required to fund
this program.
