JCCouncil Supports
Loan Guarantees

The Jewish Community
Council is active in a cam-
paign to secure loan
guarantees for the State of
Israel. Coordinated by An-
drew Zack, the Council has
formed a coordinating com-
mittee to maximize advocacy
on behalf of the Detroit
Jewish community.
The Jewish News is a part-
ner in a wide-reaching effort
to encourage thousands of
area Jews to communicate
their support to legislators.
Inserted in last week's issue
of The Jewish News were four
postcards addressed to
Washington officials, to be
completed and sent by JN
subscribers. In addition,
10,000 more postcards were
given to 17 local synagogues
for distribution at Selichot
services on Aug. 31, and to
many other organizations for
letter writing "exercises" at
their upcoming fall meetings.
The postcards were the brain-
child of Diane Klein, presi-
dent of the Jewish Federation
of Metropolitan Detroit's
Women's Division.
On Sept. 12, Jewish leaders
from Detroit and Flint, led by
Council President Jeannie
Weiner, Robert Naftaly,
secretary of the Jewish
Federation of Metropolitan
Detroit, and Nancy Hanflik,
president of the Flint Jewish
Federation, will join others
from around the country for a
day of advocating on behalf of
the guarantees in Washing-
ton, D.C.

Aish HaTorah
Publishes Kit

Aish HaTorah of Ohio has
recently published a unique
work entitled — The Aish

HaTorah Rosh Hashanah
Survival Kit. Last year the
Survival Kit was marketed in
Columbus and received rave
reviews.
The Survival Kit is design-
ed as a user friendly guide to
the Rosh Hashanah services.
The kit follows the order of
the service and provides ex-
planations of all the major
prayers and aspects of the ser-
vice. These explanations are
generally no longer than a
paragraph or two so that one
can read them quickly and
easily before saying a par-
ticular prayer.
The Survival Kit can be us-
ed in more than one way. It
contains a list of thought pro-
voking questions designed to
stimulate conversation at the
Rosh Hashanah meal.
The Rosh Hashanah Sur-
vival Kit is available from
Aish HaTorah, 737-0400.
