A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT

The school year 1990-91 has been a year of exciting and innovative
changes at the Agency for Jewish Education. The Agency continued
its commitment to quality Jewish education from tots to
teens to adults. We have developed exciting, new programs in our High
School, Midrasha, Community Services and Elementary School. All
four divisions of the Agency operate with the goal of serving
communal needs in an environment that encourages participation by
constituents while recognizing the need for change.

Mr. Neal F. Zalenko

Our dedicated professional staff has worked with every other
Federation agency, and most of the reform, conservative, and
orthodox synagogues and temples in Metropolitan Detroit. We are
excited to participate in a new education program in Grosse Pointe
and continue to reach out to the affiliated and unaffiliated members
of the Detroit Jewish community, while deveoping new methods and
techniques for delivering basic and expanded Jewish education.

The Jewish Welfare Federation and the community continue to study the most efficient and practical
ways to support Jewish educational endeavors. We are an active participant in this process and are confident
that the results will be a continued and expanding commitment on the part of our community towards Jewish
education and the teaching of Jewish values.

A MESSAGE FROM OUR EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

"None of all precepts is equal in importance to Torah Study: Nay,
Torah study excels all the precepts. For study leads to practice. Therefore,
study has priority over practice in every respect."
Mishneh Torah

Jewish education must be viewed as a system of interlocking
experiences which take place inside and outside the classroom.

We at the Agency for Jewish Education provide a positive sense of
identification with our Jewish tradition, culture and ethics.

Ms. Ofra Fisher
