Maurice Levin

Maurice Levin, 76, of
Southfield and Pompano
Beach, Fla., died May 26.
He built and operated the
original Esquire Grill in
Detroit during the early
1940s. After the outbreak of
World War II, he was called
into the U.S. Army and serv-
ed four years in Burma, India
and China. After being
discharged as a captain, he
worked with his father as a
fire repair contractor.
In 1950, he co-founded a
public insurance adjusting
company, now known as
Globe Midwest Corp. He was
a member of Mosaic Lodge,
Shriners and Tam-O-Shanter
Country Club.
Mr. Levin leaves his wife
Alyce; sons and daughters-in-
law, Lawrence and Carol of
West Bloomfield, Donald of
Farmington Hills, Robert and
Denise of Orchard Lake;
seven grandchildren.

Doris Schlafer

Doris Schlafer, 76, of Farm-
ington Hills, died May 26.
Mrs. Schlafer was active
with City of Hope and knitted
hundreds of slippers for Pren-
tis Manor over five years.
She leaves her husbnad,
Leonard; son and daughter-
in-law, Howard and Kathleen
of Southfield; daughter,
Susan of West Bloomfield;
sister, Janice Epstein of
Lauderhill, Fla.; brother and
sister-in-law, Martin and Rita
Vittes; seven grandchildren
and two great-grandchildren.

Oscar A. Spilkin

Oscar A. Spilkin, 77, of
West Bloomfield, died May
26.
Mr. Spilkin was the founder
of Hospital Linen Service, Inc.
in 1950. He was a member of
Temple Israel, Tam-O-Shan-
ter Country Club, City of
Hope and B'nai B'rith.
He leaves his wife, Lillian;
sons and daughters-in-law,
Dr. Edward and Vicki of El
Cajon, Calif., Larry and
Susann of Birmingham,
daughter and son-in-law,
Margo and Martin Katz of
Birmingham; sister, Minnie
Miller of Tamarac, Fla.; seven
grandchildren.

daughter and son-in-law,
Elaine and Mark Blumenfeld
of Farmington Hills, brother
and sister-in-law, Alec and
Sadie of Montreal, Quebec;

daughters.

AJC President
Comay Dies

Pittsburgh (JTA) —Sholom
Comay, national president of
the American Jewish Com-
mittee and a leader in a wide
variety of communal ac-
tivities, died of a heart at-
tack May 18.
Mr. Comay, 53, who had
just been re-elected to his
third one-year term as
AJCommittee national pres-
ident, served as Pittsburgh's
first housing magistrate
from 1967-71.
Mr. Comay served as
chairman of the Pittsburgh
United Jewish Federation's
budget and allocation com-
mittee, as treasurer of the
UJF and a member of its
board. He formerly served
the UJF as head of its com-
mittees on the elderly and
demographics.
A former president of the
local AJCommittee chapter,
Mr. Comay had held vir-
tually every key leadership
position in the national
organization.
He leaves his wife, Estelle
Fisher Comay; his mother,
Ethel, of Pittsburgh and Tel
Aviv; a daughter, Laura, of
San Francisco; a son, Joseph,
of Boulder, Colo., and a
sister, Debby Comay, of Pitt-
sburgh.
