Israel Protests
Health Report

/-

Tel Aviv (JTA) — Israel
has complained to the World
Health Organization that a
commission investigating
health conditions in the ad-
ministered territories is
basing its conclusions on in-
formation that is tenden-
tious, incorrect and second-
hand.
The commission, which
plans to submit a proposal
condemning Israel, did not
even visit the country, ac-
cording to Israel's health
minister, Ehud Olmert.
Mr. Olmert heads the
Israeli delegation at the
WHO's annual. General
Assembly, held this week in
Geneva. He has protested to
the U.N. agency's secretary-
general, Dr. Hiroshi Naka-
ji ma , the Israeli daily
Ha'aretz reported May 13.
The newspaper said Mr.
Olmert made clear that
health services in the ter-
ritories are up to the stan-
dards prescribed by the
WHO.

Jerusalem (JTA) —
Hadassah Ben-Ito, a highly
respected Israeli jurist, an-
nounced that she is stepping
down from 31 years on the
bench to devote herself to
the worldwide fight against
anti-Semitism.
Ms. Ben-Ito, a vice presi-
dent of the Tel Aviv District
Court, is head of the Inter-
national Association of Jew-
ish Lawyers and Jurists. She
made her announcement at
a session on anti-Semitism
at the World Jewish Con-

the United Nations in 1975,
fought against the U.N.
General Assembly resolu-
tion denigrating Zionism as
a form of racism when it was
adopted that year. She has
also battled anti-Semitism
and defended Israel in nu-
merous international forums
and conferences.
