IDF Hostage
Court Petition

Jerusalem (JTA) — The
parents of an Israel Defense
Force soldier petitioned the
High Court of Justice to bar
Israel from negotiating an
exchange of Lebanese
prisoners for Western
hostages unless their son
and other missing soldiers
are included.
The appeal by the parents
of Yehuda Katz was filed on
the basis of reports, mainly
from Teheran, that a deal to
exchange hostages for
prisoners is pending.
Nili Arad, who appeared
before the High Court on
behalf of the state pros-
ecutor, assured the justices
that the issue of missing
soldiers has always topped
the national agenda.
Danny Naveh, an aide to
Defense Minister Moshe
Arens, said that Israel is
always prepared to con-
tribute toward the release of
Western hostages in Leb-
anon, but only on condition
that Israelis held hostage by
various factions in Lebanon
are also freed.
