Art Workshop
In Birmingham

"Painting in the Garden: A
Watercolor Workshop" will be
presented by the Community
House in Birmingham as a
three session class on Mon-
days 9:30 a.m.-2 p.m. beginn-
ing May 13. Some parts of the
class will be held at Hughes
Gardens on Lahser Road
south of Ten Mile Road in
Southfield. To register, call
the program department,
Instructor Karen Halpern
will help beginning as well as
advanced students. Ms.
Halpern will use a creative
approach to sharpen
technical skills.
The class will consist of a
studio session as well as the
outdoor painting experience.
A slide presentation, criti-
ques, demonstrations, discus-
sions concerning composition
and design, painting tips and
individualized assistance will
be included. Students should
bring a picnic lunch.
Ms. Halpern, a Bloomfield
Hills resident, has 30 years of
experience as a painter. She
taught classes at Indiana
State University and ex-
hibited her work in one-
woman shows, galleries,
regional exhibitions, the
Everson Museum of Art in
Syracuse, N.Y., and the J.B.
Speed Museum in Louisville,
