Gateway Montessori School
will hold its annual fund-
raiser art sale, silent auction
1-4 p.m. May 5 at Glen Oaks
Country Club, Farmington
Hills. Proceeds will benefit
scholarship fund and day care
programs.
This will be a multimedia
art sale including: paintings,
prints, ceramics, jewelry and
sculpture. Works will be by
Dubi Arie, Baruch Nachsohn,
Ben Auram, Yosi Stern and
Abraham Leaf. Also a private
collection of prints including
the works of Irvins Amen,
Eric Gill, Rockwell Kent, J.J.
Lankes, Reginald Marsh and
print makers of the 1920s and
1930s.
Galleries represented in-
clude: Ariana Gallery, the
Detroit Artists Market,
Lawrence St. Gallery and Ar-
tists' Gallery. In addition to
the sale and silent auction, a
raffle will be held. There is a
charge; refreshments will be
served.

Ethnic Carnival
At Civic Center

Southfield Cultural Arts
will sponsor "Celebrate Car-
nival '91" May 1 at the Civic
Center Pavilion.
The traditions and cultures
of Brazil, Mexico and the
Philippine Islands will be
celebrated. There will be
Mariachi music, Mexican
dancers, Philippine bamboo
dance, Lambada, a parade of
Brazilian carnival costumes
and food.

Perlman To Open
New DSO Season

Detroit Symphony Or-
chestra, under the leadership
of music director Neeme Jar-
vi, will open its 1991-92
season Sept. 14 with a concert
by violin virtuoso Itzhak
Perlman.

Classes Planned
For Soviet Emigres

Rabbi Yosef Mishulovin of
Friends of Refugees of
Eastern Europe will teach a
class in Jewish philosophy for
Russian speakers, 7:30 p.m.
Wednesdays at the Northgate
club house: He will teach
beginner's Hebrew Thurs-
days, 8 p.m. at the Lubavitch
Center in Oak Park.
There are also ongoing
classes 2 p.m. Sundays at the
Northgate club house. For in-
