Fannie Aronson, 87,
Dancer, Teacher

Exercise

Fannie Aronson, 87, dancer,
choreographer and teacher,
died April 22. Born in Cork,
Ireland, she came to America
at 13. She studied with Mar-
tha Graham, and was associ-
ated with many of the greats
of dance such as Katherine
Dunham, Jose Limon, Ruth
Dennis and Ted Shawn.
Ms. Aronson was active
with the National Council of
Jewish Women and the Bran-
deis University National
Women's Committee.
She devoted 40 years to the
Detroit Public Schools and
many of her students went on
to careers with such groups as
Alvin Ailey.
Through her Fannie Aron-
son Group at the Jewish Com-
munity Center, and in her
own studio, she established a
dance tradition in the city.
Ms. Aronson leaves her
sister, Alice Grossman; nieces
and nephews.

Active At JCC

George Keil, 83, of
Southfield, died April 22.
Mr. Keil was retired from
his food brokerage, George
Keil Associates. He was a
member of Temple Israel and
past board member and past
president of the Jewish Com-
munity Center, and was ac-
tive with the Jewish Welfare
Federation.
He leaves his wife Selma;
daughter Mildred Jaffe;
sisters and brothers-in-law,
Theresa and Samuel Green-
berg of Southfield, Ruth and
Morris Wayne of Southfield,
Helen and Berthold Ozer of
Southfield; brother and sister-
in-law, Herman and Ruth of
San Clemente, Calif.; seven
grandchildren.

Doree Samuels, 63, of West
Bloomfield, died April 18.
Mrs. Samuels served as the
music director of the Birm-
ingham Temple for over 20
years, developed the original
choir, and created many of the
songs and melodies which
form the tradition of the
congregation.
She also taught voice and
piano in the community after
studying at the Juilliard
School of Music in New York,
and was an officer of the Beta
Sigma Phi Sorority.
She leaves her son and
daughter-in-law, Gary and
Gayle Samuels; two grand-
sons, all of West Bloomfield.
