BACKGROUND: Steve Friedman grew up
in Springfield, Ohio. His family owned a
neighborhood department store where
the entire family worked. His first job
paid 10 cents an hour.
His family was active in the local
synagogue. The town had about 140
Jewish families. He once wrote the
service for a youth conclave. He also
wrote for the high school literary
magazine.
After he graduated from Springfield
North High School in 1964 he enrolled
at the University of Michigan. One of
his professors, Edward Stasheff, help set
up the Israeli television system.
Between his degrees, Mr. Friedman
worked as a writer and reporter in radio
and television in Ohio and New York.
He also spent a short time in the navy.
After receiving his degree from the
Columbia University Graduate School of
Journalism in 1970, he was a member
of the CBS News Special Events Unit,
where he researched for Walter
Cronkite, Dan Rather and other
correspondents. He was involved in
coverage of the 1972 presidential
elections and the Apollo missions to the
moon. He wrote a 200-page handbook
for reporters covering the space flights.
From 1972-1975, he was a television
reporter and writer for WCOP-TV in
Cincinnati. He then served as a public
relations executive for the Greater
Cincinnati Chamber of Commerce. In
1979, he became director of
communications for the Greater Detroit
Chamber of Commerce and editor of
The Detroiter. He also produced a
weekly cable TV business news program
for the chamber and served as national
chairman of the American Chamber of
Commerce Executive Communications
Council.
Mr. Friedman joined Anthony M.
Franco Inc. as a vice president in 1984,
establishing the firm's video production
department. He has produced dozens of
corporate videos throughout the United
States and has won awards from
national and international film
associations. His documentary film
Wasted Dreams about teenage gunshot
victims at the Detroit Medical Center's
Rehabilitation Institute has been on
PBS television and has been
internationally requested as an
educational tool. He was recently
interviewed by Cable News Network on
his expertise in video teleconferencing.
In 1987, he was named president of
Covideo Co., a subsidiary of Anthony M.
Franco Inc. Within the last month he
was named president of the newly
formed Communications Media Group of
Anthony M. Franco Inc. ❑
