Thirteen-year-old Jon
Salamas, a white student,
asked both panelists why the
Arabs should pull out of the
war if Israel is involved.
"They want to help their
public opinion," Mr.
MacKay said. "The Middle
East discrimination factor is
religion. Arab nations are
afraid that their masses will
change if they don't act col-
lectively."
Mr. Michlin added that
Arab hatred toward Israel is
greater than the hatred
against Saddam Hussein,
who attacked other Arab
nations.
All three speakers ad-
dressed the subject of hatred,
stating that prejudice in the
Middle East must not filter
into the United States.
"It is good to see boys and
girls from all races here to-
day," Sheldon Lutz said.
"What is America all about?
It is open and free. My
parents were from
Lithuania, Mr. Michlin's
parents were from Russia
and Mr. Mackay was born in
Iraq.
"The three of us are
friends," Mr. Lutz said. ❑
