in-kind goods and services to community service organizations.
Each week, we will publish requests for needed items.
Persons interested in helping to meet these needs should

MACHINE. Saving Our Kids is
a non-profit organization of
parents helping parents help-
ing young people. S.O.K. offers
24-hour crisis referral for
parents and youth workshops
and role model programs for
youth. Save Our Kids needs
computer and software,
photocopier paper and typing
paper, a photocopy machine
and a file cabinet.
MEN'S AND WOMEN'S
CLOTHING, WHEELCHAIR,
GAMES AND PUZZLES.
Social Resources, Inc. is an
organization providing day pro-
grams for mentally handicap-
ped adults. The agency has
four locations and provides
programs for 250 people rang-
ing in age from 26 to 76, on a
daily basis. Social Resources,
Inc. needs men's and women's
clothing, a wheelchair for one
of its clients who is also
physically handicapped and
simple games and puzzles
and miscellaneous craft
supplies.
Kesher is the Hebrew word for
"link." The purpose of this
page will be to present a selec-
tion of opportunities which link
members of our community to
agencies and individuals that
can benefit from the energy,
resources and spirit we
possess in abundance.

Hamilton Nursing Home is a
nursing home with 65
residents, ten of whom are in
wheelchairs. Residents of the
home are all veterans, and
therefore younger than many
nursing home populations.
Hamilton Nursing Home needs
a kiln for crafts, exercise equip-
ment and general clothing.

The Special Friend Program of the Jewish Family Service seeks
to match interested adults with children in need of role models
and companionship. If you would like to make a difference in

and general communities that rely on volunteers. Opportunities
for a nearly limitless range of volunteers will be highlighted.
Michigan Commission
for the Blind

The mission of the Michigan
Commission for the Blind is to
provide opportunities to in-
dividuals with visual handicaps
to achieve employability and/or
function independently in
society. The Rehabilitation
Services Program has the
primary responsibility for
preparing legally blind men
and women for gainful, corn-
petitive employment.
Volunteers are needed to
read and drive for blind staff.
Skills needed: Must be able
to read aloud clearly. Drivers
must have a valid Michigan
driver's license and be familiar
with the metropolitan area.
Estimated time commitment:
Readers: 2 to 4 hours per
week. Drivers: up to 15 hours
per week.

Kiwanis-Windshire Program

The Horseback Riding for
Handicappers program at
Windshire Equestrian Acad-
emy is supported by a dozen
Kiwanis clubs in the metro-
politan area. The program is a
therapeutic experience for
handicapped children and
young aduls (physically, men-
tally, emotionally handicapped,
or any combination) through
horseback riding. The program
is affiliated with the Oakland
County 4-H Youth Programs.
Volunteers are needed to
"side-walk" the riders for their
comfort and protection,
leading the horses, or helping
with registration, safety equip-
ment, refreshments, name
tags, talking with parents.
Volunteers must be at least 14
years of age. High school and
college students are ideal, and
seniors are welcome.
Skills needed: No ex-
perience is necessary, but
knowledge of and comfort with
horses is a plus. First-time
volunteers receive a briefing,
and therapists are encouraged
to participate.
Estimated time commitment:
Friday evenings only, from
6:45 to 9 p.m., from April
through October.

Peoples Creative Ensemble

PCE is a non-profit organiza-
tion devoted to encouraging
the performing arts among
youth and seniors. They
develop and produce original
fine arts programs to enrich,
enhance and entertain the en-
tire community.
Volunteers are needed to be
outreach workers, assisting in
the development of performing
arts programs, schedule per-
formance sites, provide clerical
support and return phone
calls.
Skills needed: Background
or interest in the performing
arts, basic office skills.
Estimated time commitment:
six months to one year.

ISRAEL VOLUNTEER CORPS
Since Israel was founded in 1948, American Jews have been at the ready, going to Israel at times
of need as human service volunteers. We went during the '67 war. We went during the Yom Kippur
