Canada Bars
Scientist

New York (JTA) — A
former German scientist
linked to Nazi war crimes
has been denied entrance to
Canada, six years after re-
nouncing his U.S. citizen-
ship and returning to Ger-
many rather than face U.S.
Justice Department charges.
A decision was announced
Jan. 11 in Toronto denying
entrance to Arthur Rudolph,
84, a rocket scientist for the
U.S. moon exploration pro-
gram who was brought to
the United States after
World War II to work on the
space program. Mr. Rudolph
was manager of the V-2
rocket program in Nazi
Germany, which employed
slave laborers.
Canadian government ad-
judicator Bill Willoughby
said in the written decision
that Mr. Rudolph had known
that slave labor was being
used at the rocket factory.
He said prisoners had been
forced to work on rockets
that were directed at their
own countries.
Mr. Rudolph "will not be
allowed to return in the
future without special per-
mission of the minister of
immigration," a Canadian
government spokesman
said.

Israeli Colonel
Sentenced

Tel Aviv (JTA) — An Israel
Defense Force reserve officer
who allegedly trained
assassins for a Colombian
drug cartel has been given a
one-year suspended sentence
and ordered to pay $75,000
in fines by a Jerusalem
magistrate.
Lt. Col. Yair Klein, who
owns Hod Hahanit
(Spearhead), a security-
consulting company, pleaded
guilty to the illegal export of
military equipment.
But he plans to appeal the
sentence, saying he prefers
jail to taking out loans he
would need to pay the
$40,000 personal fine and
the $35,000 fine levied
against his company.
Col. Klein pleaded guilty
to negotiating and exporting
military expertise, skills and
weapons to foreign nationals
without a license, although
he claims no license was
needed for what he did.
Col. Klein allegedly was
involved with a shipment of
arms that went first to the
Caribbean island of Antigua
and wound up on the estate
of Medellin drug lord Jose
Rodriguez Gacha,
