Examine all the options with your
guests' comfort level in mind; for

ceremony outdoors and the
reception indoors. Even if you hold
the reception outdoors, you need a
contingency plan in case of rain.
One contingency plan is to have
adequate indoor facilities available
into which the reception could be
transferred if necessary. Another is to
rent a tent. Tents are not just in case
of rain but also to provide shade and
make for a nicer effect. These days,
many rental tents are free-standing,
which means no centerpole, thus
allowing access to the entire interior.

synagogue and the reception at an
outdoor site. Another option is hav-
ing the ceremony and reception at
the same outdoor site. Of the outdoor
receptions, more than half are held
at the people's home rather than a
rented facility.
Not only can you rent a tent but a
slew of tent accessories you probably
didn't even know existed, much less
would cost extra, like dance floor, side
walls, tent liner, lighting system and
portable heaters or air conditioners.
Rented trellises, arches and garden
"gates" reinforce the garden theme.
For weddings, people usually select
an all-white tent (striped tents are
available). From April through July,
rental companies need at least six
weeks' notice.
Tent size is determined by number
of guests, type of reception (sit-down
meal or cocktail/buffet: sit-down
requires more space), and size of
yard. Measurements are taken of the
yard to make sure the tent fits, and
to see if the ground is level. If it's not
level, the tent can be leveled.
