one of the individual gold
medalists.
More than 1,000 interna-
tional chefs competed in the
World Cup event which is
ranked the second most im-
portant team competition on
the international chef's cir-
cuit and prepares chefs for the
Culinary Olympics in 1992
. . . The Schoolcraft College
team was the only Michigan
college in the competition.
Certified Master Chef Jeff
Gabriel is coach of the team,
three members winning gold
medals for "Menu le
Gastronomique," a five-course
gourmet meal.
STORY MAKING the
rounds again is of the Inter-
nal Revenue agent going in-
to a little grocery store .. .
Owner asks, "Why do you
bother with me who makes a

RECENT ITEM in the
Chicago Tribune Magazine
tells of George Burns and
Jack Benny being best of
friends for over 50 years .. .
In Sunday Nights at Seven
(Warner) by Jack's daughter,
Joan Benny, says the article,
George insists that Jack, con-
trary to his widely known im-
age, was not cheap . . . "That
whole miser thing was a
made up gimmick to get
laughs," George says. "The
Benny I knew threw his
money around. Not far, but he
threw it."
What wasn't made up was
that Jack was George's best
audience . . . "He laughed at
everything I said," George
recalls. "That might be one
reason why he was my best
friend. And he didn't just
laugh, he'd fall down — on the
