over a year before meeting.
On their third date, they
became engaged. They have
been married for almost 35
years.
After the service, he attend-
ed Michigan State Universi-
ty. When he was graduated
from MSU, he began working
for the state tax commission
in Wayne County. In 1964 he
became city assessor for the
City of Berkley. In 1965 he
began working for the City of
Southfield. Since 1969 he has
been the city assessor.
As president-elect of the In-
ternational . Association of
Assessing Officers, he will
provide leadership to 8,200
members worldwide. He looks
forward to his term, which
will involve international
travel.
Mr. Beren is proud of the Ci-
ty of Southfield. "We are able
to provide services." He notes
that 70 pecent of the tax
dollars are paid by business.
He also mentions the fact
that Southfield is a city of af-
fordable homes.
"In my opinion, the Jewish
Welfare Federation's Neigh-
borhood Project has certainly
helped our city." ❑

Nursery School
Sets Meeting

The Shaarey Zedek Beth
Hayeled Nursery School will
hold parent information
meetings to present plans for
its summer camp and fall
nursery programs at homes
in West Bloomfield 7:30 p.m.
Jan. 21 and in Birmingham
7:30 p.m. Jan. 22. Janet Pont,
director of early childhood
programs will speak. Parents
whose children currently at-
tend Beth Hayeled will dis-
cuss their views.

for summer camp and all
nursery programs will be
available Feb. 1.

Hadassah Event
For Tu B'Shevat

Greater Detroit Chapter of
Hadassah and Hashachar are
planning a Tu B'Shevat seder
in honor of the New Year for
Trees 2-4 p.m. Jan. 27 at
Hadassah House.
The Hashachar youth will
lead a seder featuring the
traditional foods. Other ac-
tivities will include crafts and
singing. For information and
reservations by Jan. 21, call
Hadassah, 683-5030 or
357-2920. There is no charge.
