Camp Gan Israel of New
York, located in the Catskill
Mountains, was the first Gan
Israel camp, which was found-
ed about 35 years ago. Open
for boys only from the ages of
7-14, there are two one-month
sessions. Activities include
swimming, drama, all kids of
land sports, boating and
nature study.
Tuition is $850 per session,
or $1760 for the summer.

These are Orthodox camps
that aim to strengthen the
religious ideas and concepts
that the chidlren have
learned throughout the
school year.
Camp Emunah, located in
the Catskill Mountains in
New York, offers two sessions
— one for the whole summer,
and one for one month. Open
to Orthodox girls only bet-
ween the ages of 5-15, the
female campers participate in
daily sheurim. Activities in-
clude Jewish dance, aerobics,
sports, baking, sewing, arts
and crafts, baseball games,
tennis, swimming and
religious studies.
The dietary laws are glatt
kosher/cholev Yisroel.
Fees range from $1000 to
$2000 for the entire summer,
but work on a sliding scale.

Camp Gan Israel of
Michigan, located in
Kalkaska on a 600 acre wood-
ed campsite surrounding two
lakes, offers a four-week and
a five-week program for girls
ages 6-14, and a separate pro-
gram for boys 6-14. Daily
classes in Judaism are held,
and the kitchen is kosher.
Recreational activities in-
clude boating, music,
dramatics, swimming, shuf-
fleboard, basketball, tennis
and photography.
Tuition is $1200 for a five-
Week session, but many
scholarships are available.
