Camp Shalom, located in
the canyons of Malibu,
California, on a 135 acre
campsite, offers two three-
week sessions for co-eds ages
7-17,- and a one-week session
for students entering grades
2-4. One of the camp's goals is
to develop a positive Jewish
identification, and singing
Hebrew songs, hiking, sports,
games, swimming at nearby
Malibu beaches and cookouts,
are scheduled activities.
There is also a teen travel
camp for students entering
grades 9-11, where campers
hike through California Na-
tional parks, stopping at local
tourist attractions. The meals
are kosher, and the camp is
accredited by the American
Camping Association.
Tuition is $395 for the mini
camp and $1220 for the three-
week sessions and the teen
program.

It is the feeling of warmth inside and the togetherness
that everybody has when the last days of camp arrive.
It is the tears that roll down saddened cheeks with the
thoughts of the end of a wonderful summer. We have

Camp Tawonga, situated
near Yosemite National Park
in California, focuses on out-
door camping experiences
and developing a strong
Jewish identity. Open to boys
and girls ages 8-16, the camp
offers two three-week sessions
and one two-week session.
The meals are Jewish style,
with milk and meat being
separated. Activities include
backpacking, Red Cross
swimming, canoeing, a ropes
course, drama, softball and
ceramics. Shabbat celebration
and challah baking are part
of the program.
Tuition ranges from $800 to
$1200, and the camp is ac-
credited by the American
Camping Association.

Camp Wise, located on
wooded campsite near
Cleveland, Ohio, is open to co-
eds in grades 3-10. The camp
tries to create a Jewish at-
mosphere and instill Jewish
values. Dietary practice is
strictly kosher, and Shabbat
services are written by
campers and celebrated with
a festive meal.
There is a two-week session,
a three-week session and a
four-week session for children
entering grades 3-5. A special

four-week program is planned
for students entering grade
10, which includes a week
long field trip. Recreational
activities include horseback
riding, tennis, boating, moun-
tain biking, swimming and
arts and crafts.
Tuition ranges from $970
for the two-week session, to
$2065 for the special four-
week program.

MOSHAVA CAMPS

Moshava camps are Or-
thodox and Zionistic and are
open to boys and girls. The
kitchens serve glatt kosher
foods.
Camp Moshava in
Honesdale, Pennsylvania,
which is located in the Pocono
Mountains, blends Jewish Or-
thodox tradition with recrea-
tional fun. Open to boys and
girls from the ages of 9-15,
there are two four-week ses-
sions. Arts and crafts,
volleyball, swimming, Israeli
dance, nature hikes and
drama are some of the ac-
tivities offered. The camp is

240 acre campsite and con-
centrates on the teaching of
the Torah, Jewish history and
the State of Israel. Open to
boys and girls age 9-16, the
camp offers two four-week ses-
sions. Recreational activities
include swimming, comput-
ers, tennis, boating, indoor
roller skating and scouting. A
special program with daily
learning lessons under the
supervision of a Rabbinical
staff, is available to high
school students completing
their freshman or sophomore
year.
Tuition is $1000-$1100,
depending on the program.
