QUESTION: How impor-
tant is it to a buyer when con-
sidering a house that is priced
much higher or lower than
others in the same location?

ANSWER: The classic ad-
vice is to buy a modest house
on a more expensive street.
Such a house is easy to re-sell,
and its value will hold up well.
Remodeling or adding to it is
possible because alterations
won't push it out of the price
range.
On the other hand, the most
luxurious house in a rundown
area probably won't ever repay
the owner for the money in-
vested. No matter how elegant
it may be, it will be hard to re-
sell. Buy with location in mind.
Eventually, you'll be a seller.
