Leukemia Group
Hosts Pearsall

Dr. Paul Pearsall, author of
The Power of the Family:
Strength, Comfort, and Heal-
ing, will be the speaker at
"Coping with Cancer in the
90s" 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Nov. 3 at
the Livonia Civic Center
Library Building. The con-
ference is sponsored by the
Children's Leukemia
Foundation.
Dr. Pearsall's address is titl-
ed "Making Miracles" and
will relate his personal ex-
periences of coping with
cancer treatment. He is a sur-
vivor of lymphoma and has
undergone a successful bone
marrow transplant.
Dr. Pearsall founded and
directed the Problems of Dai-
ly Living Clinic in the depart-
ment of psychiatry at Sinai
Hospital of Detroit and is the
former director of education
at the Kinsey Institute for
Research in Sex, Gender, and
Reproduction at the Wayne
State University School of
Medicine. He is a professor of
psychology at Henry Ford
Community College.
"Coping with Cancer in the
90s," a conference for cancer
patients, their families, and
health professionals, is a
result of a needs assessment
survey conducted on behalf of
the Children's Leukemia
Foundation by the University
of Michigan Center for
Research on Social
Organization.
There is a fee which in-
cludes a box lunch. CLF
scholarships are available for
individuals interested in at-
tending, but unable to afford
the fee.

Young Adult Division
Hosts Party

The Jewish Welfare Federa-
tion's Young Adult Division
will host a wine and cheese
party for young adults in-
terested in meeting new peo-
ple and learning more about
YAD, 7:30 p.m. Nov. 14, at
Cranbrook House.
Former refusenik and new
American Sergei Mikhaylov-
sky will talk about his ex-
periences before leaving the
Soviet Union and his resettle-
ment in Detroit. With the
help of Operation Exodus, he
abandoned 4 1/2 years of
medical school when his visa
came through 10 years after
first applying for it.
There is a fee for the event,
which is being organized by
Pamela Lippitt and Jeffrey
Sternberg. For reservations
and information, call the
Young Adult Division,
