`When the plane touched down at Ben
Gurion Airport, we were Russians.
Histadrut helped turn us into Israelis.'

That's what one Soviet immigrant told us a year after arriving
in Israel.

Histadrut is the General Federation of Labor in Israel — and
much more. For more than 70 years, we've been transforming im-
migrants into Israelis. Now we're doing the same for the 10,000 or
more Soviet Jews who arrive in Israel each month.

Histadrut operates Kupat Holim, Israel's major health organiza-
tion. It covers 4 million Israelis. That number will climb as an ex-
pected 1 million Jews from the U.S.S.R. come home to Israel in the
years ahead.

Through Kupat Holim, Histadrut operates:

Today, Histadrut needs your help.

The latest tidal wave of immigrants threatens to overwhelm our
facilities. We need to expand and enlarge our programs now to serve
our brothers and sisters from the U.S.S.R. today, tomorrow and in
the years to come.

Your gift to Histadrut's social programs will strengthen Israel,
helping the nation to absorb our newcomers and renewing Israel's
role as the one place in the world where Jews in danger may find
a new home and build a new life.

Your gift will help transform a new generation of immigrants
into new citizens of Israel.

And for 4,000 Jewish victims of the nuclear disaster in Cher-
nobyl who have recently arrived in Israel, Kupat Holim is providing
unlimited medical care.

❑ Yes, I want to strengthen Israel by supporting Histadrut's wide-
ranging programs of health, education and social welfare.
❑ I would like to join with you, as a volunteer, in your efforts.

That isn't all.

Histadrut also sponsors senior residences, vocational schools,
children's villages for boys and girls from broken homes, adult educa-
tion centers, cultural clubs and university scholarships. It offers
special training programs for immigrant physicians who wish to
resume their medical careers as Israeli doctors.
