A decorated combat officer in World War II, he succeeded Harry S.
Truman as president of the 35th division veterans organization.
A past president of Metro Detroit ZOA, he served successively as
associate chairman of ZOA's national board and co-chairman of
Israel Projects.

The first Detroiter to become national president of ZOA, he made_
many trips to Israel and initiated new programs at the ZOA House
and Kfar Silver. A former president of Congregation Beth
Achim, he helped establish student scholarships for Israeli
programs in the Detroit area and Israel. As national president, he
met with President Bush and conferred with Israeli government
leaders. He is married to the former Lillian Ginsburg, they have
three children and six grandchildren.

THE RUSSIAN RHYTHMS OF KOLAN

Stars of "From Russia to Israel With Love," Kolan is a folklore
ensemble of Israel famous for its rich repertoire of Russian,
Yiddish, and Hebrew songs. Led by Avi Shilo and featuring the
renowned Yelena Levinsky, the group is made up of four singers
and a pianist, all recently arrived Russian emigrants to Israel.
