Shabbat, there was also time for reflection. Elana Gorchatyerd of

out after I came home from
practice. Dan went off to play
tennis and Mike and I went
into the Holocaust Memorial.
Mike and I both found it in-
teresting, even though we had
an abbreviated tour. We went
home, and, with my parents
and brother Adam, we went
out for Chinese food which
Danny and Mike found dif-
ferent from Washington, D.C.
The Bob-Lo Cruise was the
best night I had of all the
nights so far. It was cool cruis-
ing down the Detroit River,
dancing and meeting new
friends. At night Detroit looks
so nice with all its lights on
from a distance. The music
was great for the evening.
There is not that much I can
say about the cruise, but it
felt like a moving party.
FRIDAY, AUGUST 24: Fri-
day was the first day I slept
in past 10 a.m. After I bumm-
ed around the house for a
while I went to watch the
bronze medal soccer game
between Los Angeles and
Boston. Boston ended up win-
ning the game. I went home
and relaxed some more.
In the evening at our house,
we had a Shabbat dinner with
the Attars and their house
guests, Scott and Howard
from the Metrowest, New
Jersey, soccer team. The din-
ner was good and I enjoyed
the company. After dinner the
Attars' house guests together
with Mike, Dan and me went
to a swimming party. We ar-
rived late so we swam for on-
ly 20 minutes. Afterwards we
went to some parties in West
Bloomfield. I met more people
from around the United
States and then we took off to
one of my friend's houses. The
guys enjoyed themselves for
the evening.
SATURDAY, AUGUST 25:
Saturday my fmaily went to
my cousin Joel Jacob's house
on Cass Lake where he in-
vited 40 Maccabi par-
ticipants. We went swimming
and boating. Mike and Dan
were looking forward to going
water skiing. We enjoyed
ourselves a great deal.
In the evening, Mike, Dan
and I went out for a late din-
ner. Afterwards we went to a
party in Huntington Woods
for Maccabi participants.
Then we went to one of my
friend's houses where we en-
joyed ourselves for the rest of
the evening.
SUNDAY, AUGUST 26:
Sunday my mother took Dan-
ny, Mike and me to an early
breakfast so we could watch
the final soccer game which
my father officiated as the
head referee. We watched
Mexico take the gold with a
large crowd cheering the
teams on at West Bloomfield
High School. After that we
went to the closing
ceremonies at the JCC. I trad-
ed some of my goods for a
jacket, which was nice. Sadly,
I said good-bye to my new
friends Danny and Mike and
wished them luck.
To sum up the North
American Maccabi Youth
Games, this week was the
best week of my summer. I en-
joyed everything: the people,
the games, and the activities.
I hope it was as enjoyable for
the participants in previous
years. ❑
