CARLA JEAN SCHWARTZ
Local Columnist
CL,
eveloper Burt
Farbman and
restaurateur Keith
Famie joined forces to open
the new eatery, Famie's
Chicken, serving low-fat,
flavorful fowl. To celebrate
the occasion, Farbman,
Famie and People magazine
hosted a party June 26 at
Famie's Royal Oak restau-
rant, Les Auteurs.
Guests were treated to
Famie's fare, which includes
rotisserie chicken, chicken
pot pie, Southwestern
chicken vegetable chili,
chicken salad, chicken apple
salad and chicken pasta
salad. All of the chicken is
cooked on a European
rotisserie that allows the fat
to drip from the chicken, giv-
ing a succulent, healthy
taste. Famie serves honey
mustard and barbecue
sauces on the side as con-
diments. The vegetables are
also healthy —steamed broc-
coli, Boston baked hickory
beans, steamed corn and
oven-roasted spiced potato
wedges. Baked goods and
desserts include jalapeno
corn bread, potato poppy
seed roll, chocolate peanut
butter square and oatmeal
Traverse City dried cherry
cookie.
Some of the crowd mun-
chers included: Barbara
and John Haber, Donna
and Michael Maddin,
Steve and Margo Good-
man, Shelley and Richard
Golden, Barbara Berent,
Jim Grossman, Sandy and
Marty Tessler.
Keith Famie was recently
featured in People magazine
describing his health-
conscious, fast-food place.
Famie's chicken opened July
6 at 2707 N. Woodward.
Other locations are planned
in Troy and West Bloom-
field. If the concept clicks,
franchises will be offered.
Famie has already received
inquires due to the People
article.
"Keith Famie told me
about the concept and I
bought right into it," says
Burt Farbman of Farbman
Stein. Farbman succintly
explains the partnership:
"Our organization wil be in-
volved with the financial
apsects of the company and
Keith will be the operator."

Kozadayev, one of 10

on a Machon summer learn-
ing program in Israel,
thanked Rabbi Jacobovitz,
saying "If I didn't meet him,
I didn't wear a kippah now."
Started in a basement,
Machon L'Torah has
expanded to its own facility
in Oak Park and just hired a
new administrator,
Menachem Levin of
Monsey, N.Y.
Among those, attending
the Machon dinner, which
attracted 500 guests, were
Rabbi Jacobovitz's wife
Bayla and daughter Aviva,

Dov Loketch, State Sen.
Jack Faxon, Janis and
