Coach Is Needed
For Soccer Team
A coach is being sought for
the Detroit Maccabi Club's
under-14 soccer team, accor-
ding to head soccer coach
Gabriel Attar.
The team has been created
as a "feeder" team for the
club's senior squad, coached
by Attar. He said he is look-
ing for someone "with good
soccer ability."
The team is scheduled to
compete in the Little Caesar's
League Challenge June
30-July 1 in Troy. It will be
one of nine teams seeking to
gain a berth in the league by
eliminating from the tourna-
ment a team already in the
league.
The Maccabi squad prac-
tices 6:30 p.m. Mondays and
Wednesdays at Orchard Lake
Middle School. For more in-
formation, call Attar,
541-0865.

Operation Exodus
Raises Funds
Detroit's Operation Exodus
campaign got a boost of
$164,779.51 as a result of a
special meeting for members
of Young Israel of Southfield
last week in the home of Dr.
Larry and Shirley
Loewenthal.
The meeting was the
group's initial effort to raise
enough money — $250,000 —
to bring a planeload of Rus-
sian Jews out of the Soviet
Union to Israel. A minimum
donation of $1,000 was
requested.
The meeting became a
family affair when the
Loewenthal children made
significant contributions to
the campaign, encouraging
other family members to
participate.
More than 60 persons at-
tended the meeting, which
was addressed by David Mon-
dry, chairman of Detroit's
Operation Exodus campaign
for the rescue and resettle-
ment of Soviet Jews in Israel,
and= by Rabbi Elimelech
Goldberg, spiritual leader of
the congregation, who related
experiences from a recent trip
to the Soviet Union.
The Operation Exodus cam-
paign will continue through
the summer with a special
tzedaka box youth campaign.
The boxes are being
distributed to Jewish summer
camps, elementary-age
children and participants in
