ONCE A PLACE just to

get wines and various types of
carry-out items, Vineyards
Wine Cellar & Cafe on
Franklin Road at North-
western Highway, is now a
full-fledged restaurant within
the marketplace establish-
ment . . . creating an aura of
European style dining.
Twenty-four tables, all with
inlaid marble tiles, comprise
seating for 75 people inside
the self-serve operation of
many home-cooked goodies
. . . soups, about 50 salads,
grilled breast of chicken
dishes, marinated foods, Mid-
eastern favorites, Vienna cor-
ned beef, pastrami, salami,
etc. . . . the whole shot of deli
meats.
Hanging from the ceiling
are about 300 wicker baskets
of every shape and style .. .
Also garlic, corn, salami, pro-
sciutto, cheeses, peppers, pep-
per rings, plants, etc.
The outside dining with six
large umbrella-type tables is
a big warm-weather favorite
. . . Vineyards Cafe is one of
the very few places where you
can serve yourself from a Col-
umbo frozen yogurt machine.
Bagels are sliced, baked
and packaged into bagel chips
by owner Ron Asmar and his
staff . . . There's crackers,
cheeses, wines galore, li-
queurs, cheesecake, caviars,
etc. . . . Vineyards makes its
own muffins, mandelbread,
chocolate chip cookies,
brownies, and baklava . . .
There are 50 different types of
mustard, 20 kinds of coffee,
imported tea, etc. . . . Also a
separate menu for low-calorie,
low-salt and low-fat items.
Ron's wife, Maggie, makes
all those delicious salads
among other things.
They've been at this loca-
tion five years in September
. . . A small version of a cafe
was installed about three
years ago . . . Today it is a
complete operation . . . open
