tity in the U.S. from the Yid-
dish speaking East European
immigrant generation at the
turn of the century to their
suburban Americanized, mid-
dle class descendants. He will
examine how the traditional
Judaism of the Pale of Settle-
ment fared in the New World
and how American Jews em-
braced new forms of Judaism
— Reform, • Conservative,
modern Orthodox and
Reconstructionist. This
course will meet at 7:30 p.m.
on Tuesdays and Thursdays,
June 14-28.
All courses are available for
Midrasha credit towards
Hebrew teacher certification
and will meet at the United
Hebrew Schools building. For

Midrasha, 352-7117.

Machon Offers
Hebrew Class

Machon IlIbrah, the Jewish
Learning Network of
Michigan, will offer an ad-
vanced course in basic
Hebrew. Anyone with a basic
minimal reading level and
graduates of the Crash
Course, Level 1 are encourag-
ed to join. The group's instruc-
tor will be Jeff Perlstein.
The program is co-
sponsored by the National
Jewish Outreach Organi-
zation in New York.
There is no charge. For reser-
vations, call the Machon of
967-0888.
Machon Elbrah, in conjunc-
tion with Hillel Student
Center of Michigan State
University, will present a
discussion at 5:30 p.m. on
May 7 at Wells Hall on the
Michigan State University
campus.
The program will include a
dinner followed by a discus-
sion called "Jerusalem vs.
Peace, Which One Is Holier?"
